Furthermore there are the changes and chances

-

of life to reckon with all in the favour of the Government. And

further still if Lessrs. James to Korris should all continue to

serve under present conditions until they approached their 18th. to

25th. year of service, I think the question of granting personal

allowances or other "sops" to them would become importunate.

The scale of salary I have suggested would give

a man joining the service at the age of 25 his first rise to £360 at age of 28 when he might very properly think of marriage. The increase in his annual increment would take place 5 years later at

the sort of time when his milk bill might be costing him 840 or

850 a month, and thereafter his expenses would increase in full

proportion with his inconie.

The scheme would cost Government very little if

anything, would benefit Queen's College, and would be an immense boop to the masters. I hope it may receive favourable consideration.
